If Istanbul is a manifold of differences, how do Istanbulu's perceive these differences and what can they tell us of them/their city?
Looking at geo-tagged (in Flickr) images of Istanbul to discover something about the identity of the person making the capture. All images used were taken by Istanbulu's. Each capture depicts an "absolute" location. The capture however is not absolute, it is subjective.
The geo-tagged image depicts one representational interpretation of space. This virtual space is more than an idea, but rather the thing we see instead of the "naked" object being perceived- a virtuality (vs. reality or virtual reality).
This virtuality exists on a scale from the entirely virtual to the entirely real and has at its source the history of that individual (and to some extent that location?). If the material environment is the space of objects, then virtuality comprises the space of subjects.
The categorization of these virtualities acknowledges that within any virtual category there exists an infinite number of possible virtualities.
When examining these virtualities do their differences exist in a state of conflict?...opposition?...contradiction?
